The design of the Zuiderzee Carafe was commisioned by the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands. The idea for this carafe came up during designing the new interior of the museum’s information centre.
‘In the information centre, visitors can read background information about the history of the former Zuiderzee area. One aspect that people should be informed about are which parts of the Netherlands lay below or above sea level. To show this information we designed a special vase. It needs to be filled with water till NAP level, the graphical illustartions on the vase show which villages lay ‘under water’. The Zuiderzee carafe is a smaller version of the vase that was developed as a saleable product. The Carafe can be bought at the museumshop of the Zuiderzeemuseum.’
