Mr. Prof. Jon Santacoloma



Graduate (former license) in Business and Economic Science at the “Universidad Comercial de Deusto”, with speciality in Marketing and Commerce. In 1997 he gets a scholarship, in a public context, at the Design Center-DZ to study industrial design. After his academic studies al De Montfort University he creates “Ideilan Design S.L.”, a design study where he develops a lot of projects for different firms and public institutions. Some of these are “B-lux”, “ThyssenKrupp”, “Vitrinor”, “Magefesa”, “Solac”, “Laster”, “Biplax”, “Sidenor”, “Metro Bilbao”, “Universidad de Deusto”, “Diputación Foral de Bizkaia”, “Gobierno Vasco”, and several other firms and technological institutions in Castilla-León, Galicia, Cantabria and Asturias. He is also co-founder of “Santa & Partners”, an strategy, planification and previsions consulting, where he is a member of the board of directors and finally he was a partner in the foundation of the Creativity Zentrum Bilbao.
Since 2004 he has been collaborating at the "Mondragon Unibertsitatea" as a teacher and in project tutorials and as a member of jury at the international context (JUMP) organized by “FAGOR electrodomésticos”. With the same responsibilities he has collaborated also in the Master in Design Management, at Design-Centre-DZ and the University of Basque Country (UPV). He is also external examiner in industrial design, with the University of Wales (UOW).
He has published several review articles about the role of design in firms, design management, usability of products and how design may increase competitivity in firms.
He has been awarded several important prizes, at national and international levels. He is a member of the AEPD (Spanish Association of Design Professionals), and of the council for “entrepeneurship” of INNOBASQUE. Collaborates with BAI (Innovation Agency) and DDI, and is present at the SIDI (international selection of industrial designers), VIA and BEAZ.

Ideilan Design S.L. was born to offer industrial design solutions in a constantly changing world. The team of designers in the firm, under the leadership of Jon Santacoloma, has a new way of understanding the role and benefits of design applied to firms and institutions. As a result of his work, they try to get together technology and beauty at the same time in solutions and designs, with the achievement of utility, functionality and esthetics, daily instruments and excellence, all in one unite.
Ideilan Design has as its aim, consequently, to contribute to society with innovating ideas, always supported by a rational process, the result of which is to wake possible the optimization of resources and the achievement of the best final result. For this to be true, the starting point is the conviction that the ideas which live successfully in the market and which are profitable, do not usually depend on chance but, more generally, they keep inside a lot of hard study about the use and significance of the products in question.
In the whole process it is crucial to analyze market needs and to work in an endless cooperation with clients to be able to get the idea into a useful product, appealing for the market and profitable for the firm. In this way we can create something which becomes very valuable for the firm leaving in a world of rapidly changing products and competitors in the markets. Ideilan Design offers the optimization of time to think and take decisions about new products. To this Ideilan Design adds a profitably analysis in a process which integrates the clients opinions and objective data. The final result is a net reduction of risk when launching new products into the market.
This book contains a collection of what has been made at Ideilan Design in the last years. These are whole product design works, developed when giving an answer to problems coming from our clients. In other cases we propose some of the results coming within our own process of thinking and design.

Why ideilan design?
Our first basic motivation and perception when working in the world of design was to look for the best solution for our clients having a look at their resources, their environment, their needs, their business and their own clients. Taking consideration of all these together, the final clients should have a good experience with the product or system proposed.
In this context, the global offer of Ideilan might be defined as an “integral design consulting” going from the original ideas up to the development, industrialization and launching of products to the market, trough a whole process of strategic reflection and product positioning in the market, taking onto account variables which influence products, services and people: ergonomics, universality of designs, adaptability, ecology ( Reutilizations, Reduction, Recyclability), ecodesign and emotional design.

For all this to be done we have a dynamic and multidisciplinary team, distinguished with the guaranty and homologation by the DFB-BFA in the application of product and service innovation methodology through design and in the application of the methodology of innovation management in the firms.
