Light Battle

Light Battle
Contemporary Light Design from Denmark and Finland
In January Design Forum Finland will present a fresh selection of Finnish and Danish design lamps. The showing will feature eighteen designers – nine from both countries – and some thirty lamps, including products that have not yet been seen on the market.
The story of the exhibition takes as its starting point the traditional visions about the designing of lamps with a clear association between the form and function of a lamp.
The exhibition opens up a theme that is important to all of us - to have sources of light that illuminate our surroundings, emotionally and practically. Furthermore, the notion of sustainable light has become increasingly important in our everyday life where energy saving is vital.
The show is thus both an expression of curiosity and a wish to present side by side some of the world's best light design solutions from these two well-known Scandinavian design nations.
With its playful title, "Light Battle" is a joint Finnish-Danish exhibition on the important theme of the significance of lighting and the changing challenges of lighting design. It is a continuation of ”In This Light”, an exhibition held at Design Forum a year ago. New names are now included along with leading Finnish lamp designers who participated in the previous exhibition.
The Finnish designers participating in "Light Battle" are Eero Aarnio, Kirsi Gullichsen, Jukka Korpihete, Harri Koskinen, Yrjö Kukkapuro & Henrik Enbom, Janne Kyttänen, Juha Leiviskä, Mikko Paakkanen and Ilkka Suppanen. The companies represented in the exhibition are Artek, Freedom of Creation, Friends of Industry, Iittala Group, Innojok, Lundia, *original habitek works, Saas Instruments and Woodnotes.
Danish designers are also leading names in contemporary lamp design. “Light Battle” features works by Halskov & Dalsgaard, Knud Holscher, Strand + Hvass, Cecilie Manz, Mads Odgård, Kasper Salto & Thomas Sigsgaard, Hans Sandgren Jakobsen, Jørn Utzon and Morten Voss. The manufacturer of the lamps is on Lightyears. The Danish exhibits are curated by Director Sibbe Aggergaard of Contemporary Danish Exhibitions.
