The first Designers’ Saturday took place in Langenthal in 1987. Since then there have been twelve of these biennial occasions, to provide support for the Swiss design scene whilst giving it a publicity platform and stimulating its further development.

In 2010 - now in its 13th edition - the event will once again be an international meeting point for the design world. The presentations of numerous internationally known firms will be accompanied by the Cartes Blanches of both national and international colleges of art and design. And on the Saturday evening, Designers’ Night will ensure that the unique atmosphere that has always characterised Designers’ Saturday will live once more.

As a new feature, the 13th Designers’ Saturday will open its doors on the Friday afternoon to host an exclusive event for a purely professional public. This event, only for invited visitors, offers every one of the opportunity of forging new business contacts in a privileged environment and ensuring the best possible allocation of human and temporal resources.

On both following days, Saturday as well as Sunday, the audience and the range of activities will be identical. Anyone can choose at leisure whether to make his or her personal tour of the exhibition in one or in two days.The aim of the event has always been to inspire. By contrast with a furniture fair, Designers’ Saturday not only aims to give an overview of outstanding new products, but also and above all offers visitors insights into the depth of the design world, through its installations, prototypes and staging of unconventional scenarios.
