Description

Łódź Art Centre is the centre of art and culture located in an antique industrial complex. It has been operating since 2005. The uniqueness of the former factory’s surroundings has encouraged all kinds of artistic projects, especially festivals like Łódź Design, Łódź Biennale and Fotofestiwal.

Apart from periodical events, Łódź Art Centre stages individual exhibitions, and organises conferences and educational workshops. Moreover, the centre develops artistic and promotional projects in cooperation with other cultural institutions in Łódź and in other Polish cities. In 2007, Łódź Art Centre initiated efforts that encouraged Łódź to bid for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016. In 2010, the centre become the city’s official operator of the bid.

Łódź Art Centre was created by a group of young and dynamic animators of culture, promotion experts and curators, who have together joined forces to establish the image of Łódź as a modern and culture-friendly city.

About Łódź Design Festival

Łódź Design is the first festival in Poland devoted exclusively to design. It was first organised in 2007 and the main attraction of that event was a native Polish design exhibition called “Dom Polski” (Polish House).
“Play & Joke” was the motto of the second edition of the festival. Over 40 international artists presented their works at the main exhibition. The event was accompanied by “make me!” – a contest for young designers and by the Review of Polish and Foreign Fine Art Schools. That edition of Łódź Design placed the festival amongst the list of the most interesting events of 2008 in Poland.

The main programme of the third edition of the festival consisted of three exhibitions curated by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, Marek Cecula and Tomek Rygalik. The exhibitions presented a review as well as interpretations of the most interesting phenomena in the world of design and each of them referred to the festival’s motto – MY WAY. Apart from the MY WAY presentations, there were also other events like MAKE ME contest and a review of Polish and Foreign design academies. There were also numerous lectures, workshops, meetings with artists, film shows and other minor exhibitions.

In combination with Polish designs, the festival aims to present the latest trends of designs done all over the world. In short, the exhibitions will promote design in general – from functional forms and graphics to architecture and fashion. Łódź Design cooperates with the best Polish and foreign cultural centres and design academies.

MAKE ME! EXHIBITION 2010

make me! is not only a competition, but also one of the foundations and showcase for the entire Festival. The organizers also aim at reaching young designers abroad and at turning make me! into an international event.

The goal of the contest is to give the young creators a chance to present, often for the first time, their ideas and allow them to get professional feedback and criticism. The last two editions have shown the massive need for such initiatives. The number of submitted projects grows larger with every year.

The third edition of the make me! contest has aroused an enormous interest. From 243 submitted entries the jury has chosen 19 projects, which will be exhibited during this year’s festival.
