Description

For the third time, leading Polish and foreign designers will meet during the Łódź Design 2009 festival. The aim of the festival, which is to take place between the 15th and the 31st of October in Łódź, is to review global trends and to present many aspects of design, including industrial design, graphics, architecture and fashion.

In 2008, over 250 artists presented their works. Exhibitions and accompanying events were visited by over 20 000 guests. The festival has become one of the most important international events held in Poland. As a result, art schools and culture centres which work with design, started cooperation with the organisers of the festival.

The programme of the third edition of the festival includes curator exhibitions by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, Marek Cecuła and Tomek Rygalik. The exhibitions present an overview and interpretation of the most interesting phenomena in the world design. Each of the exhibitions will refer to the main theme of the festival – MY WAY.

MOTTO OF THIS YEAR’S EDITION

Where do we come from, who are we, where are we heading? Road, in a sense of a process, is understood as the past, the future, but also the present. What are our needs and where do they originate from? What are our expectations? What are the paths of creation? What are the sources of inspiration? Where does a boundary between design and art lie? Does such a boundary exist? Is design art?

Design is a kind of a language. A universal and very individualised one. Can design shock? Can it teach? The aim of the upcoming edition of the festival is to show new ways, trends in designing; to show all the different ways which creation chooses. What do artists tell us? How are they influenced? What are their paths of development? What are our ways? The thematic way of the main programme forms a journey, onto which we are taken by curators, designers and lecturers.
