Worldwide Embroidery Design Competition 2010/2011

Who can Enter
This is a Competition open to anyone from anywhere in the world who is interested in design for embroidery and who:
Is over 18 years of age
Enters as an Individual only (no group entries can be accepted)

An Artist`s Statement, not exceeding 100 words
Your design – in no more than three images
NB
1. All the above entry requirements must be sent by email before the entry deadline date, 1st October 2010
2. Do not send any artwork itself yet, only email with attached jpeg images
3. Keep all the evidence of your design journey. You will need to submit this if you are shortlisted as a Finalist

Jpeg images should be 1600 x 1200 pixels or similar proportion in resolution
You must include your name and brief contact details on every communication you submit
You will receive an automated notification of receipt for your email application
Submission Rules
One entry per contestant
Entries must be submitted by an individual. No group entries allowed
They must be the entrant’s own original work
They must not infringe any copyright
They will be judged to establish that they have met the Brief
The winning design will become the property of The Worshipful Company of Broderers to adapt, modify, publish, reproduce and promote in any way it sees fit without reference or compensation to the entrant
The Royal School of Needlework Studio will have final creative control of the interpretation of the design as embroidery, whilst endeavouring to follow the designer’s aim. This will also apply to the techniques and materials used
Judging of Entries
Judging criteria:
0 - 35 Visual impact, bearing in mind macro and micro perspective
0 - 25 The originality of your work
0 - 20 Use of colour
0 - 20 Suitability of your design for interpretation as embroidery
Judging will take place during October 2010
All entries will be judged anonymously
Judges` names to be announced later
What happens if your artwork is shortlisted?
Successful Finalists will be informed by email or letter at the end of October 2010
All Finalists names will be published online at www.broderers.co.uk from 1st November 2010
Final judging will take place in December 2010
The prize winners will be notified in January 2011
Finalists’ submission details
Original artwork/preliminary designs and evidence of your design journey must be submitted within one month of your notification as a Finalist
This may include sketch-books, embroidery samples and materials samples
Contestants must insure their own entries
To preserve anonymity, please ensure that no identifying information is attached in any way to your submissions, but do please enclose your name, etc on a separate sheet of paper
Packaging, Delivery and Return of finalists’ submissions
Each submission should be limited to the size that can be mailed by your Post Office by Special Delivery
You can also send your entries via courier
There should be no breakable materials e.g. glass
Please ensure that your artwork is packaged suitably to withstand transport through the post
The organisers are not responsible for the loss, theft or damage of contestant’s submissions whilst in possession of the Broderers or their Agents, or being exhibited, or in transit
Prize Winners
Prizes winners will be notified in January 2011
All Prize Winners will be required to supply a suitable photograph of themselves, and a 100 word biography for use in publicity material
All Prize Winning and Finalist artworks will be held by the organizers for up to one year from the date of Judging, and may be exhibited during this time. Their return can then be arranged
First Prize will be awarded at the Broderers 450th event in London scheduled to take place in June 2011
All other Prizes will be sent to the winners by the end of June 2011

A dossier, compiled by The Studio of The Royal School of Needlework, of the making of the Lectern Fall. This will include pictures of the work in progress, fabric samples, etc
Attendance for two at the Broderers 450th event in June 2011 when the table-top Lectern Fall will be used for the first time
Return travel for the winner and one guest only to London
Accommodation for up to two nights for two persons in London
The winning design will be embroidered by the Studio of The Royal School of Needlework, and made up as the Broderers` table top Lectern Fall
