SEGD Design Awards Program

ENTRY GUIDELINES

 

Who can enter?

  • • Environmental graphic designers
  • • Industrial designers
  • • Graphic designers and artists
  • • Exhibit designers
  • • Interior designers
  • • Architects
  • • Landscape architects
  • • Fabricators
  • • Consultants
  • • Clients
  • • Students

 

What is eligible?

  • • This program is open to SEGD members and non‐members. (Non‐members pay reduced fees. For details on membership or benefits, call 202.638.5555 or visit www.segd.org, where you can become a member on‐line.)
  • • Projects must have been completed in 2007, 2008, or 2009.
  • • Projects must demonstrate the use of graphic design elements in the design solution and focus on communication of information, identity, or image in the built environment.
  • • Student work must have been completed in 2008 or 2009 by full‐time students enrolled in a recognized design program.
  • • Projects meeting the above criteria that were previously entered but did not win may be resubmitted; contact SEGD before beginning online entry process.
  • • There is no limit on the number of entries that can be entered by an individual or firm.
  • • Special recognition may be given to projects developed under low budgets. Check the box if applying for Doing a Lot with a Little? and use the Project Description to clearly explain the financial constraints of the project.
  • • Jurors and their firms are not eligible to enter.

 

What are the deadlines?

Entries must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m., on January 29, 2010.

Late entries must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m., on February 12, 2010 and will incur a late fee of $40 per project.

 

No entries will be accepted after February 12, 2010.

 

 

What are the entry fees?

What is the late fee?

$40 per project.

 

How are entries judged?

Winners will be determined based on the overall standard of the program entries. Jurors may award a Jury Award to a project they believe deserves special recognition.


What if you win?

  • • Winning projects will be featured in segdDESIGN magazine and on www.segd.org.
  • • Winners must attend the awards ceremony at the SEGD Conference + Expo.

How do you enter?

For each project, submit:

1. Project Description of 500 words or less, containing no reference to designer or design firm by name.

Describe the project in terms of:

  • • environmental graphic design aspects
  • • design challenge • design intent
  • • scope of work
  • • budget and schedule
  • • accessibility issues
  • • why the project is unique
  • • clear intent to communicate
  • • informational graphic elements
  • • innovation in design and materials
  • • needs of the client and user
  • • constraints and opportunities
  • • green design considerations

2. Visual materials Installed projects:

  • • up to eight images, 300 DPI, no larger than 8 ½ by 11; micro and macro views are encouraged
  • • a caption for each image
  • • video up to three minutes in length, ONLY if needed to expand on still images (optional) Unbuilt projects, research materials, and master plans:
  • • documents, sketches, presentation materials, and other relevant materials (contact SEGD about materials that must be submitted by mail)
  • • video up to three minutes in length, ONLY if needed to expand on still images (optional)
