iF Product Design Award

Participation
As one of the world's most well-known design competitions, the iF product design awards represent a vital platform for obtaining a professional evaluation of product design quality. The iF product design awards represent an annual distinction for products which succeed especially well in combining functionality with convenience and esthetics as well as in satisfying the requirements for innovation. This responsibility and the courage to develop products which are capable of fulfilling the demands for high-quality design are both key aspects in maintaining the dynamic of our age. The iF product design awards are dedicated to providing a platform for this kind of product innovation, and we look forward to receiving your entries.
The iF product design award 2010 competition is open to manufacturers and designers of mass-produced products which have been on the market for three years or less or which are scheduled to go into mass production during the year of competition.

After you have entered your contact data in "my iF", you can register for the iF product design award 2010 competition. If you would like to register a complete product series for the iF product design award (e.g. a place setting consisting of plate, cup and saucer or a series of monitors in different sizes etc.) you only need to fill out one form.
Registration form for competition
In the text fields entitled "Product information" on the online registration form, please enter a concise description of your product in English and preferably German (max. 650 characters, including spaces, per language). This succinct information serves as an aid in screening entries as well as for subsequent adjudication.
If your product wins a prize, the above-mentioned text descriptions can be "recycled" for your entry in the iF product yearbook and the iF online exhibition; here, both languages are mandatory.
Please upload two photos per competition entry when registering, in conformance with the following specifications:
- Max. size: 3 MB
- Format: .jpg
The pictures are a binding part of your registration.
Please have these files ready before opening the online entry form.
In the interest of equal treatment of all iF product design award contestants, we can only accept a maximum of two photos. Exceptions will only be granted for complex systems. If you are submitting a complex system and would like to provide more than two photos, please send a short e-mail informing us of this to product@ifdesign.de. iF reserves the right to the final decision.
After we have received your online registration incl. two product photos:
1. We will confirm receipt of your competition entry by issuing an entry ID for your entry. Your entry ID consists of the competition code "191" plus a five-digit number identifying and classifying your entry. Please quote this entry ID in all your correspondence as well as on any deliveries and product or packaging labels, since otherwise your entry cannot be referenced.
2. We will mail you an invoice for the registration fee. Payable by bank transfer or check (see our banking details). Unfortunately, we cannot accept payment by cash or credit card. Please note that your invoicing address, once entered, cannot be subsequently changed. Please also be sure that your registration is complete and contains all the necessary information and images, since your entry will otherwise be excluded from the screening process.
Screening process
Based on your product information and the two product photos per registered entry, the jury chairperson will decide which products to invite for adjudication. You will be informed by e-mail of the results of the screening process.
Decisions are made on a continuous basis as registrations come in. Contestants who register early will learn of the results of the screening process earlier, and can thus make more timely arrangements for their products to be shipped.
The jury's decision is legally binding, and there is no legal recourse. We ask for your understanding that, owing to the large number of registrations received, we are unable to provide any individual justifications.
If you pass the screening process:
1. We will e-mail you an invitation to compete in the adjudication, providing detailed information on how to ship your competition entry and on self-assembly procedures.
2. We will invoice contestants for a flat organizational overhead fee (for the costs of handling and presenting your product so it can be judged by the jury) in the amount of EUR 190 plus VAT for each product admitted to the adjudication.
Jury
Year after year we are delighted at being able to attract international judges of the highest caliber, who are extremely dedicated, critical and passionate in their discussions and their overall approach to the task of adjudicating our events. The non-public judging session for the iF design award 2010 will take place in November, 2009. The results of this process will determine which of the companies and designers have met the iF criteria of design excellence.
Members of the judging panel may not take part in the adjudication process more than two years in a row. Exceptions can be made by the chairman of the jury. iF any of the judges is directly involved with any of the entries, he or she has no vote. The decision of the panel here - as in the screening round - is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
iF will determine the composition of the international jury.
Handling and Logistics
After the screening process successful contestants will receive an invitation to adjudication. Along with the invitation you will be asked to provide measurements and weight of your product(s) by going to "my iF", then select the "My current entries" site area and then the "Exchange logistics information" icon.
