The Fennia Prize 09

Competition series
There are two series in the competition:
1. Product Design Series Material consumer and investment goods, product collections and product systems (hereinafter “products”) can be submitted for the Product Design Series.
2. Open Series Realized projects in which design is applied in business in other ways than defined for the product design series can be submitted for the Open Series. This series can include for example business operation concepts and environments and service concepts and environments (hereinafter “products”). The entries are to be subject to evaluation according to the Evaluation Criteria (§ 5 of the Competition Rules). The entries will be dealt with in the form presented by the submitting participant.
Schedule
The Fennia Prize competition is held biennially in years of odd number. The registration period for the Fennia Prize 2009 competition is 1 May – 31 October 2008. The results of the competition will be announced in February 2009.

1. Registration form
Registration with a separate form, which is available - on the Internet from www.designforum.fi/fenniaprize09 - by collecting or ordering from Design Forum Finland, Erottajankatu 7, FI-00130 Helsinki or telephone +358 (0)9 6220 8110. The form is also available at all offices of the Fennia Group in Finland.
2. The competition entry The following material shall be supplied for the entry: either in writing: - The filled-in registration form - Presentation of the product in pictures attached to two sheets of foamboard no larger than A3 format. The pictures are to present the submitted product from the necessary angles of view. - Written presentation of the product (maximum 50 words) - Description of the significance of the product for the company, e.g. with regard to product design, turnover etc. (maximum 50 words) or electronically in pdf format. In this case the entry is to include all the above material. The pdf can be downloaded from www.designforum.fi/FP09 in connection with electronic registration. By registering in the competition the company concerned accepts the competition rules and brief and agrees to pay the registration fee, and a participation fee if it is included among the prizewinners. The actual product can also be attached to the entry. The set period for submitting the product is the same as for the entry. The entry shall be submitted no later than 31 October 2008 either in pdf format (maximum 5 pages) to fenniaprize@designforum.fi, or in writing or CD format to the address Design Forum Finland, Erottajankatu 7, FI-00130 Helsinki, Finland. The date of the postmark shall be no later than 31 October 2008. The envelope is to be marked "Fennia Prize".
3. Information on the designers Information on the designers shall be submitted in connection with registration in the competition, on a separate attachment if necessary. Please note that information supplied by you will be used in the exhibition and the catalogue as submitted.
4. Registration fee The registration fee is € 180 (+ VAT 22%) per company and product./ series of product. Registration will be in force upon payment of the registration fee (by no later that 31 October 2008) into the account of Design Forum Finland, Nordea Pankki Suomi Oyj, Aleksanterinkatu 36, 00020 Nordea, account number: 200118-267521, IBAN account number FI6120011800267521, SWIFT: NDEAFIHH.
Presentation of the product to the jury
Companies registered in the competition shall agree to provide, upon request, their entered products for inspection by the prize jury, which may also request a presentation (approx. 10 minutes) of the product. In these cases, the company concerned shall be responsible for all costs related to the presentation, shipping and return of the product and for insurance during transport and evaluation by the prize jury.
Awards
The Fennia Prize awards and honourable mentions will be given to companies. The total prize sum to be distributed is € 35,000. The prize jury will rule on distributing the prize sum, provided however that the Fennia Grand Prix will be no less than € 15,000. The other awards are Fennia Prize awards and honourable mentions. The maximum number of awards is 28. The awards include participation in the Fennia Prize exhibition, itspossible tour and the exhibtiion catalogue, and the right to use the Fennia Prize logo in connection with the prize-winning product and in related information and marketing. The Fennia Prize awards will be given to the recipients at the opening of the Fennia Prize exhibition. Participation in the prize exhibition and participation fee Upon registering in the competition, the participating company agrees to pay a participation fee of € 3,750 (+ VAT 22%) should it be selected as the recipient of a prize or honourable mention. This fee covers participation in the prize exhibition and its tour. Participation in the exhibition will take place according to the instructions of the organizers. The organizers of the competition will be responsible for transport and insurance costs during the exhibition and its tour.
The prize jury
The prize jury consists of a maximum of nine experts representing design, the business community and the media. The prize jury will make its decisions on the basis of a selection made by a preliminary jury of designers.
Evaluation criteria
The prize jury's criteria of evaluation are presented in the competition rules. Organizers of the competition The organizers of the competition are Design Forum Finland and the Fennia Group. Confirmation of awareness of the rules and brief of the competition By entering in the competition the participating company confirms its acceptance of the competition rules, the competition brief, related payment and other obligations and that it owns the rights to the submitted product. By entering the competition the participating company awards, without compensation, the organizers the right to use material produced in relation to the prize-winning product (e.g. images of the product in printed or electronic form).
