Late Fee
For the entries that are submitted late but the late fee was not paid on initial registration, the entrant must return to the registration page on www.architectmagazine.com/adr and select “Adding Late Fee to Previous Entry.” The entry number which corresponds to the late entry will be needed to submit the late fee; once the fee has been paid, an e-mail confirmation will be sent—this must be printed and included with the Team Information Page in the envelope attached to the submission. This fee is nonrefundable, regardless of the postmark date on the submission.
All materials submitted to the Annual Design Review become the property of ARCHITECT, which will not be responsible or liable for them. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Submission Information
Binding
® Entries must be bound and consist of legibly reproduced graphic material accompanied by adequate explanatory text written in English.
® There is no required style of binding (i.e., three-ring binders are not required). Recyclable materials are preferred.
® Avoid fragile materials and materials with sharp edges.
® Entries must be bound no larger than 9 by 12 inches, with larger drawings or images scaled to fit this dimension.
® Include the entry number (three numbers after "20101763E" that will be listed in the confirmation e-mail) on the top left of the front cover.
The binder will need the following information:
- 1. Project Facts Page (page 3 of the entry form packet attached to the confirmation email)—must be the first page in the binder.
- 2. Client Statement (see Rules and Regulations, page 6 of the entry form packet attached to the confirmation email)—must be the second page in the binder.
- 3. Photographs of the completed project.
- 4. Site Plans
- 5. Floor Plans
- 6. Other Drawings (cross-sections, elevations, etc...) Drawings should include north arrow and scale, where appropriate.
- 7. Performance Qualifications (see Rules and Regulations, page 6 of the entry form packet attached to the confirmation email)—must be the last page in the binder
- Digital media (such as DVDs/CDs), models, and any unbound material will not be considered during the judging.
Labels
- ® Judging is blind. The firm name, client name, and names of team members should not appear anywhere on or in the entry.
- ® Do not, however, conceal the identity or location of the project itself.
- ® Label the top-left corner of the cover of your submission with the entry number supplied in the confirmation e-mail; each entry will have a unique entry number. These numbers are randomly generated once registration has been completed and the fee has been paid.
- ® ARCHITECT will not black out or otherwise adjust entries; if the anonymity of the submission is compromised in any way, the submission will be disqualified, with no return of fee.
Supplements
An envelope needs to be included and attached to the last page or flap of the binder. Secure it using binder clips—to ensure anonymity, the envelope will be removed prior to judging.
The envelope needs to include (in this order):
- 1. A copy of the e-mail confirming your entry (and the late fee confirmation e-mail, if the late fee was paid separately from the submission fee)
- 2. A Team Information Page (see page 4)
- 3. A Project Fact Page (see page 3)
- 4. Permission to Use Images (page 5) form. (Submit as many as required by the submission, e.g., if there are two photographers who shot a total of a dozen images that are included, include two releases.
- 5. An 8.5-by-11-inch color copy of everything included in the binder, unbound but binder-clipped together
- 6. A DVD or CD with: a) high-resolution (300 dpi) PDF files of each page of the binder; b) high-resolution jpeg or tiff files of every image contained within the binder and; c) a Microsoft Word document with project credits, listing individual team members by name and title as well as consultants.
To have the submission returned, a self-addressed Federal Express airbill must be included in the envelope; the entry number must be written on the airbill. A $10 handling fee will apply for each entry.
While ARCHITECT will make every reasonable effort to return the submission, it can be held neither liable nor responsible for returning entries.
Rules and Regulations
WHO CAN ENTER Architects and other design professionals practicing in the United States or non-U.S. firms entering projects built in the United States.
PROVIDING ADDITIONAL MATERIALS Entrants whose submissions are selected agree to make available further information and publication-quality graphic materials as needed by ARCHITECT.
AWARDS Awards and citations will be given in each of the six categories, and each entry will be judged only in the category in which it is submitted.
PUBLICATION Winners of Annual Design Review awards or citations will appear in the November 2010 issue of ARCHITECT.
BINDERS Entries must consist of legibly reproduced graphic material accompanied by adequate explanatory text in English. All entry material must be firmly bound no larger than 9 by 12 inches. Binders made of recyclable materials are preferred. Avoid fragile or sharp binders. Digital media (such as DVDs/CDs), models, and any unbound material will not be considered during the judging. Include online registration confirmation number on spine and back of binder.
PROJECT FACTS PAGE The first page of each entry binder must list project facts under the headings as they appear on the project facts page, such as Entry Name, Location, Category, Site Characteristics, Zoning Constraints, Type of Client, Program, Construction Systems, Funding, and Schedule. This information must include square footage, cost, and specific materials.
CLIENT STATEMENT The second page of each entry binder should be a single-paragraph statement from the client (and identified only as “client”) addressing how successfully the project fulfilled the programmatic requirements set out at the beginning (or over the course of) the design process.
PERFORMANCE QUALIFICATIONS The last page of each entry binder must be a single page outlining the green aspects of each project and any building performance data that exits at the time of entry.
MIXED-USE PROJECTS Mixed-Use projects can be entered into Work (for Commercial Mixed-Use), Live (for Residential Mixed-Use), or the category that represents that largest allocated square footage in the project. Since awards will be given in each category, Mixed-Use projects can be submitted multiple times into multiple applicable categories, but each time the project is submitted, it should be treated as a new entry and is subject to all relevant entry fees.
PROCESS DOCUMENTATION Entries should document the design process, as well as its result. Include information on software, hardware, and hand media employed. ARCHITECT encourages entrants to include copies of preliminary sketches, alternative preliminary schemes, information on context, precedents for the design, and excerpts from working drawings in addition to photographs of the completed project.
PROJECT RESEARCH Include records of any research performed in support of the project.
NO ORIGINAL DRAWINGS Do not send original drawings; ARCHITECT accepts no liability for submittals.
ANONYMITY To maintain anonymity in judging, no names of entrants or collaborating parties may appear on any submission materials except the entry forms. Do not, however, conceal the identity or location of projects. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in immediate disqualification; ARCHITECT will not blackout or otherwise adjust any submission to make it comply with this rule.
ENTRY FORMS Each submission must be registered online ahead of the submission deadline. The online process will send an entry number which must be legibly included on the top left of the binder for identification purposes.
PHOTOCOPY Please enclose one bound or stapled set of 8-by-11-inch color photocopies of your entry. The first two pages should be copies of the registration e-mail and the project facts page, in that order. Secure the photocopies inside the back cover of the binder.
ENTRY CATEGORIES Identify each submission on its entry form by category. Mixed-use facilities should be classified by the largest function. There is no “miscellaneous” category. Only one category may be selected.
REGULAR ENTRY Regular entries must be postmarked by July 9, 2010. Entries must be registered at www.architectmagazine.com/adr before being postmarked, with the entry fee paid in advance, by credit card. The fee is $250 for standard submissions; each entry after the initial entry is $175.
OPTIONAL LATE ENTRY For an additional $50 fee per submission, late entries may be postmarked by July 14, 2010. Fees must be paid online by credit card.
RETURN OF ENTRIES ARCHITECT will return only those entries accompanied by a self-addressed Federal Express airbill. ARCHITECT assumes no liability for loss or damage. Include the confirmation number on the airbill. A $10 handling fee will apply for each entry to be returned.
