The Judges: Sigga Heimis
Sigga Heimis was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1970. She graduated as an industrial designer from Istituto Europeo di Design, in Milan, Italy, in 1994, winning the Compasso D'Oro for her graduation project.
In 1995, Sigga started her own design company H&H in Iceland, undertaking diverse projects for clients worldwide: from furniture to interior design, to medical appliances.
Sigga returned to Milan in 2000 for a Master's degree at Domus Academy, whilst continuing her work for H&H. Subsequently, Sigga started working as an in-house designer for IKEA Sweden in 2001, developing designs across all product areas, from children's furniture to breadbaskets. After seven years at IKEA, Sigga was appointed Design Manager at Fritz Hansen, Denmark.
In addition, Sigga has also worked on projects with all the leading international design schools: Eindhoven Design Academy, Royal College of Art in London, Domus in Milan, University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Parsons in New York, University of Shanghai, and Marhi in Moscow, among others. Sigga’s works have been displayed in various design museums and shows such as the VIA gallery in Paris, and were featured in the 2004 Design Yearbook.
Recently, Sigga quit her latest position at Fritz Hansen to focus her own studio, and continues to work for IKEA Sweden.
