  • We meet in Copenhagen at the SAS Royal hotel, designed by Arne Jacobsen, at 8.45 on a cloudy May morning. We greet each other among a host of multicoloured ‘Egg’ chairs. He is wearing a light blue shirt with buttoned-up collar, a dark pair of chinos and leather loafers. He is 183 cm tall, weighs 95 kilos, and carries his 58 years well. He speaks softly, keeping his eyes engaged with mine, sometimes leaning towards me to press a point. His cautious smile starts from the left of his mouth, bounces to his brown eyes and resurfaces at his mouth.

  • Environmentalism has come up against a new wall: Why is eco-efficiency not good enough? The overwhelmingly majority of our environmental actions are guided by an ecoefficiency principle, which can be synthesized as getting more for less, fewer throwaways, reduced use of resources, and inflicting less harm in the process of attaining more products or services. Reducing and minimizing is commendable, but the compounded effect of a growing population and greater needs is accruing in a crescendo of waste to squander, of new poisons adding to an already lethal toxic scourge, and a befouling of what is already contaminated. The recycling mantra does not seem to be saving us.

  • A symbiosis between a magazine and a book that goes against the dominant trend of consuming and throwing away tons and tons of printed matter that we could have easily done without from the beginning: ”BOOKAZINE” – created as something worth keeping.
