Knock Airport is a small regional airport in Co. Mayo, Ireland. Its committee wanted to re-brand the airport as part of their large expansion programme called Vision 2020. As part of this, a new name – Ireland West Airport Knock – was chosen to reflect its position and stature as the main gateway to the West of Ireland. The identity itself combines the idea of flight and location, with the wings of a local Swift bird forming a view of Ireland’s western coast. The colours reflect this wild and rugged region, alluding to the areas’ abundant grass and heather. The typography is based on DTL Argo, chosen for its personality and rugged appearance, a natural fit for this quirky airport.

Since the airport is located in an Irish language (Gaeilge) speaking region, an official signature in that language had to also be designed. As part of the brand suite, many different versions of the identity had to be created, including the stacked (primary) and linear (secondary) versions in both languages as shown here.

When the new identity and brand were launched, a special exhibition was mounted on the main wall facing the arrivals entrance. It was branded with the new identity along with a series of perspex panels detailing the ongoing expansion progamme and information about the airports new identity.

The brand was extended across all parts of the airport over the following months. I've included a branding contact sheet showing how it was to be implemented across signage, airport vehicle livery and on the staff uniforms.
