Knitted Chairs

Knitted Chairs was a commission for Pangolins Ark, London, in which I collaborated alongside fashion designer Steffi Orke in order to produce a series of knitted chairs. The process itself takes on an attitude of mend and make do, drawing on times when attitudes were very different to the consumerist society we live in today, a time when people would sew up a hole in a sock, or sew patches onto torn clothes instead of tossing them aside and purchasing new ones. This kind of mentality couldn’t be more relevant then it is today with the credit crunch hitting us hard and the topics of sustainability and recycling being at the forefront of issues facing society.

Materials: Found chairs, reclaimed washing line (prototype), second hand climbing rope.
